Find out about local organisations and societies here. A lot of societies are free to join. You will find that most societies hold events which are open to non-members and are very friendly to new people who would like to participate. There is something for everyone in this town and some clubs from nearby villages are included in this directory.
The next Abingdon Clubs and Societies Day will be held on Saturday 21st April in Abingdon Guildhall. Please keep part of the day free and tell others who are looking for new things to do locally. This will be open to all clubs which are based in Abingdon or hold meetings in Abingdon, with some places if space is available for interests in nearby villages. A form will be posted here by 1st February but please make sure key members of your group are available and that you are planning for this event.
Abingdon Market Place for the Community - the Market Place is a community area which local clubs and societies are encouraged to use for raising funds and promotions. For example, this season includes the Sea Cadets with their band, lots of live music, our local Scouts and Guides, Riding for the Disabled, Fair Trade and green charities. The Oxfordshire Council for Voluntary Action runs free courses for anyone interested in setting up a society, gettng involved in being a volunteer, building a community website. Their website and their offices are a good source of ideas for things to do and ways in which you or members of your family can volunteer.
