Useful Information
Grants are available for voluntary clubs, societies and for individuals - The Town Council accepts applications for grants from organisations which act for the local good of the town and from individuals who are excelling in a particular field but require financial assistance, including those involved in sports, science, engineering or arts. Individuals must live in Abingdon and for sports activities the applicant must be of County standard. Further information can be found in the Grants Criteria or call 01235 468340. The Grants Sub-Committee will be meeting on the following date Tues 8 March.
Fishing - 15th March to 15th June is the closed season. No fishing is permitted on the River Thames. Abingdon Residents' Fishing Permits for 2011-2012 fishing season can be stamped at Town Council offices during the season - proof of permanent residency will be required before a permit is issued or renewed. Visitor and season tickets are also obtainable after the start of the season - visitor & season ticket charges. It is a requirement of the Environment Agency that you must have a valid rod licence, which can be obtained on line at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/rodlicence; at any Post Office in England and Wales or telephone 0844 800 5386.
COLD CALLING
Residents need to be extra vigilant when answering their doors to strangers. If you are concerned that the caller at your door maybe involved in rogue trading / distraction burglary please contact the Police on 999 for an immediate response. If you have elderly or vulnerable residents within your street please take extra care to ensure they are not being targeted by potential criminals. A call to the Police is advisable if you are unsure about the credentials of callers in your neighbourhood.

Town noticeboards are updated each Thursday. Handbills at A5 are useful and please bring information in well in advance as the twon has a lot of events to display in limited space.
There is a file of things to do in Abingdon and area available to browse through as well as the on-line information. A clubs and societies fair is held every two years, next proposed date is in April 2012.
