Abingdon Air Cadets
The Air Cadets is a youth organisation for boys and girls from the age of 13 to 20. Venture Adventure is our motto, and cadets participate in activities such as Duke of Edinburgh's Award, attending camps across the UK and the world, target shooting, gaining two BTEC qualifications and, of course, flying - either flying in the powered gliders seen above Abingdon or in powered aircraft at RAF Benson. Sport is a major activity, with the Abingdon Air Cadets competing at both local and national level. In the Air Cadets you will meet new people and learn new skills. Abingdon Air Cadets meet at their base in Whitecross, Abingdon, every Tuesday and Thursday 7pm to 9.30pm

Abingdon Alzheimers' Group
This is a branch of the national association which holds regular events, awareness of how to assist people with Alzheimers or Dementia, fundraising. Phone the Visitor and Community Information Centre for information.

Abingdon Artists
Abingdon Artists run an exhibition during Abingdon Arts Festival in March, one during May Oxofrdshire Artweeks and most years one in September during the Heritage Open week. Painters and other media are represented and the organisation accepts members who are learning about art as well as proficient (some professional) artists. There are also groups in some local villages with a Friday art group in Drayton, art at The Abbey Sutton Courtenay, and a Society in Kennington. The largest amateur astronomy society in Oxfordshire serving Abingdon, Oxford and the surrounding region. We promote public interest in astronomy through a varied programme of meetings and observing evenings for all experience levels. Meetings featuring talks, often by leading professional astronomers, are supplemented by our more informal beginners' meetings and by monthly observing evenings in Abingdon or at darker sky sites in the area.

Abingdon Detachment (The Rifles) Army Cadet Force
Open to young people 12 to 18 years and adults wishing to train as instructors.  Meets at Crabtree Place, Audlett Drive, Abingdon each Thursday 1900-2130.  Challenging military and adventurous training.  All uniform (minus boots) provided.

Amnesty International(AI) is a worldwide group of people who campaign to have internationally recognized human rights upheld everywhere.  We envisage a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards.  AI is independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion.  It is concerned solely with the impartial protection of human rights.
Meetings:  The Abingdon group meets on the third Tuesday of every month (except August) at 8pm in the Old Anchor, St Helen's Wharf.   We campaign and we raise funds.  Come and join us!

The branch line railway contributed to the vitality of Abingdon 1856 to 1984. Known as the Abingdon Bunk it still has a following amongst rail enthusiasts and the

American Football
American Football teams play in Abingdon with a season from April to September. Volunteer coaches and supporting staff start team training for the season in February based at Abingdon Rugby Club on Lambrick Way. There are five home and five away games against other teams affliliated to the British American Football Association which is the sport's governing body. There re also play-offs and friendly matches. Part of Oxford Saints AFC which has existed for since 1982.

Abbey Meadow Lacemakers
This group of lacemakers meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Preston Road Community Centre. This is a welcoming group of lace-makers who help each other. Google them (on a Communigate website) or turn up between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Archway Foundation
In partnership with 35 Ock Street,  the Archway Foundation is starting a new fortnightly social group in Abingdon. There will be space to talk in a supportive atmosphere. Develop confidence and meet new people.

A social and self-help group for sufferers from Macular Degeneration (loss of central vision) but welcoming anyone visually impaired, and sighted volunteers.
