The Abingdon Monks' Map - A talk by Manfred Brod

Thursday, 26 July 2018 - 11:30am

Gallery Talks - AAAHS 50th Anniversary

The "Monks' Map" as an example of early English map-making is probably the most important single artefact in the museum. Its origin has long been obscure, but recent work has shown when and why it was made, and by whom.
This talk will discuss the evidence, and consider what the map teaches us about local affairs at the time of its production.

Time: 11:30 am and 1:30 pm (talks will last for 30 to 40 minutes)

Location: Kempster Room (lift and wheel chair accessible). Optional visit to the Attic Gallery (90 steps up) to see the actual map.

Admission: FREE (Donations are gratefully received)

Accessibility: The Kempster Room is located in the museum's basement and is accessible by steps from the rear of the building, or the lift at the west side of the museum exterior. The basement has wheelchair access.
