Richard III abingdon museum lecture battle bosworth war of the roses

On February 19 BBC historical advisor Gareth Howell returns to Abingdon to deliver another of his engaging talks on military history. The Amey Theatre in conjunction with Abingdon Museum play host, and this year Gareth conducts a historic examination of the War of the Roses.  Tickets are available from the Amey Theatre website: Amey Theatre Bookings  or can be booked at Abingdon Museum on 01235 523703 Gareth has also recently conducted research for the BBC into the Home Guard in the UK, to tie in with the release of the new Dad's Army film, the report of which is due for release later in 2016... more

Visitors are invited to see a stunning display of artwork from two Berkshire artists, Bill Pike and Diccon Dadey. The pair have teamed up with Abingdon Museum in creating scenes of movement and motion found in nature, from capturing the moment of ducks landing in metallic sculpture, to the rippling reflections of the Thames at Abingdon.  The exhibition is located on the first floor sessions gallery and the museum is free to visit Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm.  On February 20th visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists to find out how they produce their wonderful... more

Textile Workshops designed to teach and inspire

Abingdon Museum marks the opening of the HapticArt Thames Shifting Perspectives exhibition with a series of hands-on workshops, designed by the professionals behind the artwork within the exhibition. Adults of all ages are welcome to book a place on one of three different workshops, learning and practising a variety of textile skills. For more details please visit the Textile Workshops event page. Places are £10.00 per person and include light refreshments.  Contact the Museum on 01235 523703 to book a place. A scientific briefing before entering the dome!

The Sun Dome, presented by Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, is a fascinating and educational activity for youngsters aged 5+. The Sun Dome is a giant inflatable dome that uses projections, images and videos to explore the workings of the Sun, how it continues to burn and how the energy of the sun has inspired new research!  There has been a wonderful response from families for the first two workshops. Tomorrow Abingdon Museum will be opening its doors from 5pm for an evening of free entertainment for all! Trendles at Marcham

With the upcoming Gateway to the Gods exhibition set to open this weekend in the County Hall Museum (25 April 2015), the team at Trendles have arranged a series of fantastic free school workshops for us all related to the Roman artefacts found at Marcham.
