The lunchtime lecture by John Homewood on the Wild Rose design of blue and white pottery taking place at 1pm on 21 January is now fully booked. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from everyone at the Museum   The County Hall Museum will be open until 4pm on Sunday 22 December for all your last minute Christmas gift purchases. The Museum re-opens with selected items at sales prices on 3 January at 10am. Throughout 2014 we will be open Tuesday - Sunday and summer Bank Holiday Mondays from 10am to 4pm.

Showing off on Charter Day at the Museum The children of John Mason School, Abingdon, were surprised to find on arrival to the museum galleries, a series of historical figures explaining and exploring the history of late Tudor Abingdon. In the main gallery William and Lady Blacknall and Lady Stonehouse explored the dissolution of the Abbey and Chantries, and development of the town charter. Upstairs the quarrelsome John Blacknall and Sir George Stonehouse argued over their rights to the River Thames, as well as the origins and history of the Monks Map followed by a special opening of the roof... more

30,000th visitor to Abingdon Museum

On 15th June the Museum was delighted to welcome its 30,000th visitor. Since reopening in July 2012 the Museum has received fantastic support from the public and was thrilled to welcome Tim and Leeanne from Queensland Australia as our 30,000th visitors. They were visiting Abingdon-on-Thames with family members Martin, Alison and Molly from Kennington, Oxfordshire.  They all enjoyed a visit to the Museum with complimentary tickets to the roof to view Abingdon.
