Enjoy the Marketplace

Abingdon-on-Thames is a market town that still proudly upholds the tradition of the Market Place as a focus of town life. The Market Place is central, easily reached, and is the scene of important occasions and music festivals but also of weekly and monthly markets, fairs and community events. On any day of the week it's a lovely place to drink tea or a cappuccino in the sunshine, catch up with friends or plan a day out in the town and surrounding area.

In the Museum there is a fascinating film of the Market Place with the homecoming of troops and the welcome by families - this is worth several viewings just to look at the faces of the children, some meeting their fathers for the first time. Their clothes from a century ago in this same place are notable but most of all see Abingdonians being very, very happy.
