Abingdon Town Council – Statement

HRH, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh 1921 – 2021

It is with deep sadness that Abingdon Town Council heard the announcement today from Buckingham Palace that HRH, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh has passed away.

The Council wishes to express its sincere condolences to H M The Queen and the members of the Royal family at this very difficult time.  The Duke of Edinburgh was a very well respected, loved and thought after member of the Royal family and will be greatly missed.

In accordance with protocol and as a mark of respect the Union Flag, at the County Hall will fly at half mast.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions there is no  physical book of condolence available for residents to sign at the County Hall, but messages of condolence may be left on the online Book of Condolence, once it is made available at https://www.royal.uk/

The gathering of large numbers of people is not encouraged under the COVI-19 advice and therefore there is no single point of focus for the laying of flowers at this time.

Further announcements will be made in due course. Visit www.royal.uk to read the announcement in full.
