Patching the Past

An exhibition by local quilters of new work inspired by the history of Abingdon and the County Hall. This traditional craft is definitely back in fashion as the perfect way to personalise your home with soft furnishings. Come and be inspired by the variety of techniques and shapes used to create pictures and patterns.

English Patchwork Pincushion – Tuesday 8 October
10am – 12pm. Tickets FREE – but donations to Museum Funds are welcomed
A chance to try your hand at English style patchwork, the fabric is tacked over paper templates and then sewn together. Kits provided for pincushions, but these could be expanded into cushions. Please bring small sewing scissors and a thimble if you use one. Suitable for ages 14+
American Pieced Patchwork Blocks – Thursday 7 November
10am – 12pm. Tickets FREE – but donations to Museum Funds are welcomed
Join us to learn about American style piecing, shapes are cut, marked on the reverse and then sewn together. Make a block to take home which could be used to make a cushion or the start of a quilt! Please bring small sewing scissors and a thimble if you use one. Suitable for ages 14+
Traditional Hand Quilting – Tuesday 19 November
10am – 12pm. Tickets FREE – but donations to Museum Funds are welcomed
If you have joined one of our previous patchwork workshops this is your chance to quilt your block, sewing the pieced work with wadding and a backing to give the pattern a depth and make it more durable. Please bring small sewing scissors and a thimble if you use one.
