Volunteers Wanted
Abingdon Museum are looking for Front of House Volunteers to join the museum’s highly praised team. Our volunteers are crucial to the successful running of the museum and its diverse range of events, family activities and exhibitions, and in enabling us to run essential facilities as part of the museum experience, including roof viewing and operating our cafe.
Volunteering opportunities at the museum are varied, however as a shortlist of possible tasks for prospective volunteers:
Roof viewing – talking to visitors from the stunning panoramic platform at the top of the museum.
Cafe operating – relaxed and informal cafe work with a focus on knowledgable and friendly service.
Collections and Administration – the running of the museum happens in the back office where essential administrative work is processed daily.
Front of House – a varied role suitable for very personable individuals, including gathering survey data (both visitor and non-visitor), greeting visitors, helping at evening events, answering visitor queries, acting to ensure the safety of museum collections and upholding the rules of the museum.
We are looking for personable and friendly individuals who enjoy interacting with visitors. A level of very basic fitness is required as the museum operates over four floors and over 100 steps. A passion or knowledge of history, science, art and the town of Abingdon are all beneficial but not critical, as the Museum is determined to help our volunteers in developing skills and knowledge wherever possible. Finally, an open-minded approach to our various volunteering roles is one of the most effective ways to enjoy and gain from your time at the museum.
