48 West St Helen Street
No.48 is one of the few surviving early houses in West St Helen Street. It is timber-framed, and jettied at first and second floor levels, though only the latter survives. Probably seventeenth-century in date, some of the timbers in the house are medieval, but have been reused. The property belonged at one time to Christ’s Hospital. In the twentieth century it was occupied by the Cowley Oil Co. Ltd., but has now been sympathetically restored as a private house.
No.48 is private property and is not open to the public.
