Abingdon-on-Thames has a Guild of Town Criers. With a few weeks’ notice a town crier is likely to be available for an event, long notice would help for ceremonies. The cryer can publicise your event in advance by “crying” about it in the weeks leading up to the date and on the day itself.
A sense of occasion can be given at any special meal, arts o sport event by having a traditionally-dressed town crier in attendance or to shout a welcome.
All town criers are volunteers who love this town so consider whether you have a voice you can project and a sense of drama. The Guild may offer yo an audition.
