Public Art in Abingdon-on-Thames

There are some memorable pieces of modern public art in the town. Notable modern sculptures can be viewed in Bury Street, near one entrance to the Abbey grounds, and behind the Abbey grounds in Thames View. Also, find pieces on buildings and at ground level such as at Ock Bridge Place and at the MG garden. District Council has taken the initiative to place items. A map and a cycle tour of these statement pieces covers a large part of the town beyond its centre.

Many of the art works have been provided through the Percent for Arts scheme, which encourages developers of large new building schemes to make a contribution to a local arts project – see here and here for detailed information on Art in Abingdon.

Public art commissioning in Oxfordshire runs the Percent for Art Scheme and more information on this can be found here.
