SUMMARY:Remembrance Day Sunday
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Remembrance Day commemorations will take place on Sunday 14th November 2021. \n10:30am: All to assemble at the War memorial ahead of the service \n10.50am:  Remembrance Day Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial. The service at the War Memorial will be led by Rev Dr Charles Miller and music will be provided by Abingdon Town Band. \nFollowing the sounding of the Last Post\, the two minutes silence will be observed at 11.00 am. This will be followed by the laying of wreathes on behalf of the town’s various organisations. \nThis is an important event in the life of the town\, giving thanks for the lives of those who have served the country\, and all are welcome and encouraged to attend. \nWe have changed our arrangements this year to take account of the inherent risks to public health from organising large events during a pandemic.  However the risks remain and you will need to take this into account if you consider yourself to be vulnerable or living with a vulnerable person. \nAlthough this is an open-air event the virus is circulating at high levels with the latest estimate being that 1 in 45 individuals are infected in England; consequently there will be persons at the event who will unfortunately be carrying the virus. We are also aware that other respiratory infections are circulating including influenza.  We are expecting high levels of attendance from the public at this year’s ceremonies and effective social distancing at such an event is not possible. \nYou should follow all relevant advice in relation to Covid-19 and should not attend if you are unwell (even if your illness is not Covid-related) or if you are self-isolating.  Further details from the NHS are online here.  You should remember that many people infected with Covid-19 do not show symptoms and therefore we advise that you take a lateral flow test ahead of the event;  they are free\, easy to obtain and easy to use. \nYou should bring and use hand sanitiser as necessary. \n
