DESCRIPTION:The Arts Society Abingdon will be presenting the next lecture on  21st September 2022 10.30am and 2.00pm at The Abbey Cinema\, Abingdon. \n The Dowager Empress Cixi – Ruling from behind the Yellow Silk Screen by David Rosier \nThis lecture seeks to give a balanced insight into the life and achievements of one of the most important women in Chinese Imperial history. From relative obscurity as a low-ranking consort\, it recounts the events that led to her confirmation as Dowager Empress Cixi in 1861\, and the cycles of power as Emperors came and went. It explores her desire to force China into the modern world and gives an insight into her beloved summer palace. \nVisitors are very welcome to attend this lecture\, cost £6.00.
