DESCRIPTION:This six-week course inspired by Oswald Couldrey – arguably Abingdon’s most famous artist and poet of the 20th century – offers a journey through drawing\, poetry\, photography and contemporary painting techniques. \n\nRunning every Friday from 20 February to 27 March\, 10am to 12pm in the Museum Kempster Room\, there are 10 places available for this course.\nBooking is essential\, a place costs £180 which includes materials.\nContact the Museum reception to book and make payment – 01235 523703\nor email abingdon.museum@abingdon.gov.uk. \n\nInitially\, Helen will guide you through Couldrey’s exhibition which is on display at Abingdon Museum for the first three months of 2026. Together you will then go on to further study and critique his paintings and poems in a session of discussion and discovery. Equipped with a new-found knowledge of Couldrey’s style and his creative techniques it will then be your turn to take to the streets of Abingdon. In an homage to the artist – who influences Helen’s own colour palette and style of composition – you will study the historic town’s architecture and meandering streets\, and begin the process of creating your own responses. Using his poems to help your aesthetic response\, you will photograph\, draw and paint the contemporary town through a Couldrey-style lens.\nThis will help to develop your understanding of perspective through drawing\, your composition skills and how colour pallets influence the artist. DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the MGA\, one of the most successful MG models\, this exhibition looks at the development of the design\, the influence of speed-record breakers and experimental prototypes\, and it shines a spotlight on Syd Enever\, the ‘father’ of the MGA. \nWith memories of the MG factory still present in the town\, we hope that this will be another MG story of interest to local people and to MG enthusiasts who visit us from around the world. TO bring the story to life we will display MGA-related artefacts courtesy of the MG Car Club as well as the Museum’s collection of MG models through the ages\, from the very beginning to the 21st century. \nThe MGA exhibit will run at Abingdon Museum until the end of June 2026. Be sure not to miss it!

DESCRIPTION:Paint Abingdon Pink\nRaising Awareness (2009–Present) \nThis exhibition charts the evolution of the event from its beginnings in October 2009 through to the present day. News cuttings and imagery follow moments such as its expansion in scale\, the adaptation to a virtual format in 2020\, and its renaming in 2025 to Paint Abingdon Pink. Working with Abingdon and Witney College a series of flyers/posters and logo concepts were designed by students; there is also a showcase all acts involved in this year’s event. \nThe exhibition concludes on the weekend of Paint Abingdon Pink\, raising awareness of breast cancer\, donations will be welcomed and contribute to help them continue their vital research. \nFREE Admission \nAttic Gallery

SUMMARY:Exhibition: SAXON Abingdon
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition now starting on Saturday 11th July \nFollowing on from last year’s Roman exhibition\, we will continue the story of the Abingdon area and its people through the Anglo-Saxon period and give a more detailed context to the significant Anglo-Saxon artefacts in the Museum’s permanent display\, such as the rare 7th century gold ring with glass bead decoration. Excavations have uncovered much about the Saxon’s presence in Abingdon\, for example the discovery of a Saxon cemetery on Saxton Road. The exhibition looks at the archaeological evidence and takes a closer look at people’s lives here in the early medieval period. \nFREE Admission

DESCRIPTION:Join me for free\, drop-in children’s clay workshops filled with creativity and fun! \nIn this activity young makers can learn how to create a pinch pot and use a range of tools to design a beautiful summer-themed pot.
