SUMMARY:Megson with support from Anna Renae
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Megson to Harwell Village Hall. \nFour times nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and double winners of the Spiral Earth Awards MEGSON create a truly unique brand of folk music. \nCombining an infectious mix of heavenly vocals\, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars\, MEGSON have gained a reputation not only for their arresting & intelligent songwriting\, but also for their exquisite musicianship and northern humour. Comprising Debs Hanna (Vocals\, Whistle\, Piano Accordion) and Stu Hanna (Guitar\, Mandola\, Banjo) MEGSON have been described as as “the most original duo on the British folk scene” by THE GUARDIAN and as FROOTS Magazine puts it ‘if you don’t like the music here then you have a problem’. \nLiking to keep busy\, MEGSON have recorded thirteen studio albums across their twenty year career gaining four & five star reviews from THE GUARDIAN\, MOJO\, THE TELEGRAPH\, UNCUT\, THE FINANCIAL TIMES whilst THE OBSERVER pronounced them ‘A force in the folk revival’. Even lockdown 2020 couldn’t hold them back as they performed a hugely popular series of live stream concerts to their growing army of followers. \nAnd during all this time\, Stu even managed to be involved with other artists producing & recording award winning music for SHOW OF HANDS\, ODETTE MITCHEL\, LUCY WARD\, FAUSTUS & THE YOUNG’UNS. \nNow they are back doing what they do best\, on the road promoting a brand new studio album WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO SAY. Catch them if you can… \nSupport from Harwell favourite Anna Renae. \nDoors and bar 7pm\, music 7:40pm.

SUMMARY:Exhibition - Abingdon 1945
DESCRIPTION:2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2\, and our exhibition looks back at Abingdon in war and peace in 1945. Learn how the war impacted the lives of local people through food shortages\, the threat of air raids\, war work in the industries\, and the influx of evacuees and armed forces personnel. Take a closer look at the roles of women and how they experienced the war and the post-war period. The exhibition also looks at the changes the peace brought\, how people celebrated VE and VJ Day\, what happened when the soldiers returned home\, and how a decision taken in 1945 changed the face of the town with the coming of the ‘Atomics’. \nFrom 4th October to 23rd December 2025\n \n \nPlease join us for the final talk of the Museum’s WWII history series ‘1945 -The End of the Third Reich’ presented by BBC Radio Nottingham’s History Advisor Gareth Howell .\n \nPlease book your tickets at the Museum Reception\nor online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/abingdon-museum  \nFriday 7th November at 7pm.\nLocation: The Roysse Room\, Bridge Street\, Abingdon.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Objects of Significance by Sarah Frodsham
DESCRIPTION:Step into a space where the familiar holds unexpected depth. Objects of Significance invites you to explore the hidden meanings behind everyday items through a curated collection of single objects\, each contributed by a local resident. From worn-out clothes to cherished heirlooms\, these items reveal emotional layers and personal histories that transcend their ordinary appearance. Each object tells a unique story offering a glimpse into the lives of those who call Abingdon home. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on a singular object from their own lives and the emotions it evokes. By spotlighting these intimate narratives\, the exhibition celebrates the richness of lived experience and the quiet power of the seemingly ordinary.

SUMMARY:The Lost Trades with support from Detta Kenzie
DESCRIPTION:The Lost Trades are a Folk/Americana group\, based in the West Country\, with a cool Laurel Canyon vibe. With a sound that is reminiscent of the California folk scene of the late 60s/early 70s\, their vocal harmonies have been described as “flawless”\, “spine tingling” and “magical”.\nAfter a global pandemic cut short their first tour after just a single sold out gig\, they retreated to their songwriting rooms to work on their debut album\, “The Bird\, The Book & The Barrel”. The album was released in June 2021 and was well received\, spending 8 months in the official UK Folk Albums Chart. The follow up\, “Petrichor” was released in March 2023\, and immediately followed suit\, entering the chart at #31.\nThere’s always a fun intimacy to their live show\, and comfortable repartee with each other and treating the audience like a group of old friends. \nSupport will be from Devon based Detta Kenzie. \nDoors and bar 7.00pm\, music 7.15pm

SUMMARY:Katherine Priddy with support from Rowell Road
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to welcome back Katherine Priddy to Harwell Village Hall for a third time\, no doubt it will be a third sell out event. \nFebruary 2024 saw the release of Katherine Priddy’s eagerly awaited second album: The Pendulum Swing. Greeted by critical acclaim in the press including MOJO who called it “simply brilliant”\, the album landed at #1 in the official UK Folk Charts. It saw the likes of Iggy Pop\, Guy Garvey\, Craig Charles\, Mark Radcliffe and Gideon Coe giving it a spin whilst RTE in Ireland added tracks to their recommendations list for 3 weeks running. \nWith her biggest headline tour to date selling out most cities and her reputation growing\, she was asked to perform on the legendary Later.. with Jools Holland (25th May) on BBC Two. She now returns for the final run of The Pendulum Swing Tour in March 2025. \nSince Richard Thompson chose Priddy as “The Best Thing I’ve Heard All Year” in Mojo Magazine on the strength of her 2018 “Wolf” EP\, her star has risen exponentially. Winning fans from Guy Garvey\, Mark Radcliffe\, Stuart Maconie and the late Janice Long and garnering glowing press reviews across the board for The Eternal Rocks Beneath. Her live performances are engaging\, moving and amusing by turn\, delivering original songs with emotional maturity\, depth and particularly noteworthy lyrics. Despite the delicate nuances of her sound\, Katherine Priddy is not a fragile wallflower\, but a determined young woman making her mark. \nwww.katherinepriddy.co.uk \nSupport will be from Roswell Road\, who have played in Harwell several times. \nDoors and bar at 7pm\, music at 7:40pm. \n

SUMMARY:Christian Walker - Coleshill: National Trust's Heritage & Rural Skills Centre
DESCRIPTION:The Buscot and Coleshill Estate was largely taken on for the great Coleshill House\, built in the 1650s it struck a new model in design\, layout and craftsmanship that was to influence the English country houses for centuries.  Sadly the house burned down during its restoration and before it was legally gifted to the National Trust.  The estate became a sleeping giant covering over 7500 acres with over 1000 buildings and structures.  It  inspired many craftspeople and artists including William Morris\, Michie Herbert and Katherine Pleydell-Bouverie.  An idea emerged in 2017 to engage\, the National Trust’s first Heritage and Rural Skills Centre champions dying skills including connecting children and young people with skills.  Christian Walker\, General Manager for West Oxfordshire National Trust\, will take you through how the idea developed and how spaces were given new uses\, with the new ways of working being established to secure long term future for buildings on the estate and what future projects look like as the vision for a renewed creative estate is realised.
