SUMMARY:Exhibition: A Geologist's Guide to Abingdon
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition will provide some background and context to our many fossil finds in the collection\, starting with an introduction to rock strata and how they were discovered by William Smith over 200 years ago. \nAbingdon stands on a layer of Jurassic rock called Kimmeridge Clay. In that period\, the continents as we know them today had not formed yet\, and Abingdon was submerged in a shallow sea. This is why most of the fossils found in Abingdon are of marine creatures. There were some coastal areas nearby\, though\, as proven by the finds of dinosaur footprints at Ardley near Bicester.\nWe also put Abingdon into the context of other rock strata from the Jurassic period which are present in the wider Abingdon area\,\nand how they can be observed in the landscape. \nThis exhibition will go up in the Sessions Gallery of the Museum. In May it will be joined by a second display in the Attic\, showcasing recent fossil finds here in Abingdon. \nFree Admission

SUMMARY:The Salts with support from Barton Hartshorn
DESCRIPTION:The Salts are a co-operative of seasoned musicians\, creating what is fast becoming\none of the most exciting and energetic folk concepts of recent times. With their own unique sound that mixes well written original compositions alongside classic traditional tunes\, it’s a guaranteed blast.  You could say that 21st century folk fires a respectful broadside at the traditional.\nThe Salts perform shanties but not quite in the way you might expect. They are five seasoned musicians with a remarkable list of credits to their names from Pete Best via Thunderclap Newman to Ben E King. Now based in the leafy suburbs of Surrey and Berkshire\, Brave is their second album. All five sing and harmonise naturally but that’s not how they perform – essentially they are an amplified acoustic band with a drummer but there is even more to them. \nTheir debut album ‘She Rises’\, their second album ‘BRAVE’ and the latest ‘LIVE IN LONDON TOWN’ are receiving rave reviews across the board. \n“The Salts – they were just outstandingly brilliant”\nTim Walker BBC (Costa del Folk 2022). \n“Incredibly gutsy stuff with a big sound”\nMike Harding\, (The Mike Harding Folk Show) \nSupport is from Barton Hartshorn. \nDoors and bar 7.00pm\, music 7.15pm
