SUMMARY:Exhibition - Abingdon 1945
DESCRIPTION:2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War 2\, and our exhibition looks back at Abingdon in war and peace in 1945. Learn how the war impacted the lives of local people through food shortages\, the threat of air raids\, war work in the industries\, and the influx of evacuees and armed forces personnel. Take a closer look at the roles of women and how they experienced the war and the post-war period. The exhibition also looks at the changes the peace brought\, how people celebrated VE and VJ Day\, what happened when the soldiers returned home\, and how a decision taken in 1945 changed the face of the town with the coming of the ‘Atomics’. \nFrom 4th October to 23rd December 2025\n \n \nPlease join us for the final talk of the Museum’s WWII history series ‘1945 -The End of the Third Reich’ presented by BBC Radio Nottingham’s History Advisor Gareth Howell .\n \nPlease book your tickets at the Museum Reception\nor online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/abingdon-museum  \nFriday 7th November at 7pm.\nLocation: The Roysse Room\, Bridge Street\, Abingdon.

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Objects of Significance by Sarah Frodsham
DESCRIPTION:Step into a space where the familiar holds unexpected depth. Objects of Significance invites you to explore the hidden meanings behind everyday items through a curated collection of single objects\, each contributed by a local resident. From worn-out clothes to cherished heirlooms\, these items reveal emotional layers and personal histories that transcend their ordinary appearance. Each object tells a unique story offering a glimpse into the lives of those who call Abingdon home. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on a singular object from their own lives and the emotions it evokes. By spotlighting these intimate narratives\, the exhibition celebrates the richness of lived experience and the quiet power of the seemingly ordinary.
