All of the data will be shared with the Environment Agency\, Thames Water\, local councils and the media\, used to highlight issues in our local rivers and push for improvements and change. \nFor this training event\, we are looking for citizen scientists who are interested in monitoring the lower Ock catchment (e.g. Marcham\, Didcot\, Harwell\, Abingdon)\, and the main Thames from Oxford to Dorchester-on-Thames. \nThe training event will cover: \n\nAn introduction to river health and river pollution\nIntroduction to citizen science for rivers\nHow to take a freshwater watch sample (field demonstration)\nCollecting and uploading data to the freshwater watch website\nSelecting a sample site\n\nThis training event is run by Thames21 and the Letcombe Brook Project on behalf of the Ock Catchment Partnership. The Ock Catchment Partnership is a group of organisations and individuals with the aim of “working together to improve the entire freshwater environment of the Ock Catchment from its springs\, fens\, ponds and headwaters\, along its tributaries and chalk streams to its floodplains and main rivers\, so that it has more clean water\, is more biodiverse\, its communities experience reduced flooding\, is resilient to climate destabilisation\, provides water resources and is valued and used by local people.” More information here: https://freshwaterhabitats.org.uk/our-work/conservation-and-practical-delivery/catchment-partnerships/ock-catchment-partnership/

In these child-led experiences\, our trained tutors will support and guide children but not direct them\, allowing each child to lead their own learning while developing their curiosity for nature. \nWe have three special themed Little Acorn events for the summer holidays\, all set in our beautiful gardens where we will be investigating the season\, connecting with nature through summer time craft activities and a spot of gardening. Come along and harvest vegetables from the kitchen garden and enjoy mud kitchen and water play areas. There will be crafts\, as well as all the usual outdoor activities to explore including the mud kitchen and water play. \nAnd after\, why not stay and enjoy a picnic at one of our benches and grab an ice cream and coffee from our welcome hub and make the most of the day. \nThe first event is our Teddy Bears’ Picnic:\nBring a favourite teddy bear to join in the fun as we build a shelter\, make a mud pie and serve up some summertime herbal drinks.. \nAt the end of the session we’ll all come together for a special story for all the teddies and children with an elderflower lollipop made from our elderflower trees. \nDates: Monday 29th July & Tuesday 30th July\nTime: 10-11.30am\nLocation: Earth Lab\, Earth Trust Centre\, Little Wittenham\, OX14 4QZ\nPrice: £10 per child (+booking fees)\nAges: 2-6 years (under 2s free) \nFor tickets and important information about this event: https://earthtrust.org.uk/events/little-acorns-summer/
