SUMMARY:Exhibition: Atomics to Medieval Knights
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to the positive visitors’ feedback and high attendance\, we are happy to let you know that the exhibition “Atomics to Medieval Knights – a history of Fitzharris Manor Estate” has been extended until Sunday 6th April.  \nThis tells the story of Fitzharris Manor\, from its beginning after the Norman Conquest\, when it was granted to a knight called Owen or Oin. One of his descendants was called Fitzharry\, whose name attached itself to the Manor and is still reflected in the modern housing estate. We track the history of the Manor through time\, and how the Manor House changed with a succession of owners. The exhibition then focusses on the coming of the AERE research establishment at Harwell\, which brought an influx of new people to the town – the “Atomics”. In order to provide housing for them\, a new estate was built on the site of Fitzharris Manor – the Fitzharris Estate. The exhibition looks at the construction\, the design\, and the people’s life on the estate and how the coming of the Atomics changed the town. It also lifts the lid on what went on at Harwell\, and some events which shaped world history but took place right on our doorstep. Much of the research into the history of the estate has been done by Mike Evans of the Fitzharris Estate Residents Association\, whose support makes the exhibition possible.

SUMMARY:The Sam Kelly Trio with support from Sarah Yeo
DESCRIPTION:Sam Kelly will perform in Harwell for the first time in his trio format. Sam writes and arranges most of his material with his main musical collaborator\, Jamie Francis. After meeting at university in Brighton in 2010 and discovering a common interest in roots music\, Sam and Jamie began playing together in a folk band\, with Jamie (a guitar player first and foremost) deciding to learn to play the banjo because Sam was already the guitarist. They also performed at many open mics and venues as a duo\, performing original\, folk and blues songs. Naturally\, the lives of two young musicians who have absolutely no idea what they´re doing became choc-full of many colourful experiences (including Sam auditioning for ITV´s Britain´s Got Talent whilst in London for a gig)\, and ending up getting all the way to the final). They still perform together at folk clubs\, venues and festivals\, performing inventive interpretations of tunes and songs in between (occasionally) funny anecdotes and stories of their misadventures. The third member of the trio is fellow Lost Boy Graham Coe on cello. \nSupport will be from Sarah Yeo. \nDoors and bar at 7pm\, music at 7:40pm.

We also offer a safe place to play\, paint and meet like-minded people with the same interest. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome. \nThe society is a non-profit organisation made to further enjoyment of the hobby in all aspects. It is also a great opportunity for players to play games with new people and expand participants’ knowledge and passion for Warhammer and similar strategy games. Whilst these are the main games played there is always room for others and we have board games such as\, Rumble Slam\, Scythe and many more. \nThe club is based above the willows shake shop at the heart of Abingdon town centre and sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesday between 6:30pm and 10:00pm. On Saturday it starts at 10:30am and ends at 4:00pm. There will always be one committee member at each session to welcome you\, and of course me on a Wednesday. \nIf you want to know more you can email (bloodandwar40@gmail.com) or check out our website (https:/a-grim-dark-gaming-society.square.site/). \nIn the evenings and at the weekend you can get refreshments downstairs such as milkshakes\, coffee tea and cold drinks so there’s a wide variety of hot or cold food available\, depending on your taste. All in all this is a great opportunity for people who want to play strategy games for a small fee or you can watch the games and seek advice for free.
