SUMMARY:Abingdon Operatic Society presents 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'
DESCRIPTION:In April 2025\, Abingdon Operatic Society will be debuting ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ at the Amey Theatre in Abingdon.  This promises to be a magical week for cast\, crew and audience\, so make sure you grab your golden ticket! \n‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is a musical based on the 1964 children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl\, with book by David Greig\, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.  As most of us know\, it tells the story of Charlie Bucket and his desperate search for the golden ticket that will enable him to enter the secretive Chocolate Factory of Mr Willy Wonka. \nThe show originally opened at the Theatre Royal\, Drury Lane in June 2013 and almost immediately broke the West End’s record for ticket sales – a record it still holds.  It ran until 2017\, when a reworked production moved to Broadway.  It is this Broadway production that was licensed for international touring productions and\, later\, amateur theatre. \nToday\, there are professional tours across the US\, UK and Australia\, but at AOS we have been lucky enough to fit our production between tours\, which allows us to create a brand new production for Abingdon! \nPerformances are from Tuesday 8th – Saturday 12th April at 7.30pm\, with an additional 2.30pm Saturday matinee\, at the Amey Theatre\, Abingdon\, OX14 1DE. \nTickets can be purchased at www.ticketsource.co.uk/abingdonoperatic

We also offer a safe place to play\, paint and meet like-minded people with the same interest. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome. \nThe society is a non-profit organisation made to further enjoyment of the hobby in all aspects. Whilst these are the main games played there is always room for others and we have board games such as\, Rumble Slam\, Scythe and many more. \nThe club is based above the willows shake shop at the heart of Abingdon town centre and sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesday between 6:30pm and 10:00pm. On Saturday it starts at 10:30am and ends at 4:00pm. There will always be one committee member at each session to welcome you\, and of course me on a Wednesday. \nIf you want to know more you can email (bloodandwar40@gmail.com) or check out our website (https:/a-grim-dark-gaming-society.square.site/). \nIn the evenings and at the weekend you can get refreshments downstairs such as milkshakes\, coffee tea and cold drinks so there’s a wide variety of hot or cold food available\, depending on your taste. All in all this is a great opportunity for people who want to play strategy games for a small fee or you can watch the games and seek advice for free.

SUMMARY:Sound of the Sirens with support from Calum Gilligan
DESCRIPTION:Sound of the Sirens are a singer-songwriting duo based in Exeter\, Devon comprising of Abbe Martin & Hannah Wood. Honing their craft over the past decade\, Martin & Wood have cemented themselves as firm favourites as “one of the UK’s finest folk acts” not only on the Westcountry scene\, but nationally\, and internationally too. Their status\, and fast-growing fan-base is not only testament to the pair’s prowess as songwriters and musicians\, but as people too.\nMartin & Wood are two of the hardest working musicians on the scene and wear their hearts very much on their sleeves in terms of their songwriting. The pair glide gracefully through laments of past relationships\, and life experiences\, as well as highlighting the important topics of the day\, namely mental health awareness\, and homelessness. Without being pigeonholed into any stereo typical genre\, the instrumentation of the band is vast\, and varied. Martin (stage right) plays acoustic and high-strung (Nashville tuning) guitar\, mandolin\, and bass drum\, while partner in crime Wood (stage left) plays acoustic and electric guitar\, tambourine\, snare drum and the piano.\nThe pairs’ musical and vocal dexterity dovetail beautifully on the co-written songs\, which range from beautiful\, emotive ballads\, to up-beat\, foot stomping\, hands in the air\, sing-along anthems. The dynamic duo and their musical creations translate very well onto recorded media\, but it is in the live arena where the pair truly excel. There is a certain majesty about their live performances that simply cannot be put into words. It is this “je ne sais quoi” that keeps their loyal fans returning from far and wide to see these two perform. It is not just nearly two hours of high-quality live music you get for the entrance fee\, a Sound of the Sirens show is much more than that. The onstage chemistry\, camaraderie\, and banter is worth the ticket price alone. \nSupport is from Calum Gilligan. \nDoors and bar 7.00pm\, music 7.15pm
