SUMMARY:Grim Dark Gaming Society
DESCRIPTION:The Grim Dark Gaming Society has been going since January 2023 and provides facilities and equipment for Science Fiction and table-top gaming. \nWe provide a space to discuss\, paint and play fantasy and sci-fi games. We also offer a safe place to play\, paint and meet like-minded people with the same interest. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome. \nThe society is a non-profit organisation made to further enjoyment of the hobby in all aspects. It is also a great opportunity for players to play games with new people and expand participants’ knowledge and passion for Warhammer and similar strategy games. Whilst these are the main games played there is always room for others and we have board games such as\, Rumble Slam\, Scythe and many more. \nThe club is based above the willows shake shop at the heart of Abingdon town centre and sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesday between 6:30pm and 10:00pm. On Saturday it starts at 10:30am and ends at 4:00pm. There will always be one committee member at each session to welcome you\, and of course me on a Wednesday. \nIf you want to know more you can email (bloodandwar40@gmail.com) or check out our website (https:/a-grim-dark-gaming-society.square.site/). \nIn the evenings and at the weekend you can get refreshments downstairs such as milkshakes\, coffee tea and cold drinks so there’s a wide variety of hot or cold food available\, depending on your taste. All in all this is a great opportunity for people who want to play strategy games for a small fee or you can watch the games and seek advice for free.

SUMMARY:Mishra with support from Elsi
DESCRIPTION:In 2022\, global-folk band Mishra met international fusion vocalist Deepa Shakthi (formerly Deepa Nair Rasiya). Out of a blossoming musical friendship\, they began a collaborative project that takes the soul-stirring euphoria of Deepa’s sufi singing as a starting point\, and weaves in the threads of Mishra’s UK folk and Indian classical influences to create a captivating cross-cultural sound. Their joyous performances are a journey of contrasts\, from hand-clapping trance-like sufi songs to spacious stillness and reflection. \nMishra are a collective of musicians with a growing reputation for forging a distinctive path through music rooted in diverse traditions. Founded as a duo of Kate Griffin on banjo and vocals and Ford Collier (The Drystones) on low whistle and percussion\, the pair recruited some of the finest musicians exploring the meeting points of world\, folk\, and jazz on the Sheffield music scene: John Ball (Rafiki Jazz) on tabla and santoor\, Joss Mann-Hazell (Auka) on double bass\, and Alex Lyon on clarinets and vocals. Since forming in 2018\, Mishra have won Celtic Connections’ prestigious ‘Danny Kyle’ award\, received BBC Radio 2 airplay for their albums ‘The Loft Tapes’ and ‘Reclaim’\, and performed at festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival\, Beardy\, Timber\, and more. \nOver 30 years of studying Indian music and working across genres under the banner of ‘world music’\, Deepa Shakthi has forged an international reputation as a vocalist and composer\, receiving awards and acclaim in the UK and India. She has worked with artists including Kuljit Bhamra and toured with Opera North’s production of Orpheus. \nSupport is from Elsi. \nDoors and bar 7.00pm\, music 7.15pm.

SUMMARY:Grim Dark Gaming Society
DESCRIPTION:The Grim Dark Gaming Society has been going since January 2024 and provides facilities and equipment for Science Fiction and table-top gaming.
