Greeted by critical acclaim in the press including MOJO who called it “simply brilliant”\, the album landed at #1 in the official UK Folk Charts. It saw the likes of Iggy Pop\, Guy Garvey\, Craig Charles\, Mark Radcliffe and Gideon Coe giving it a spin whilst RTE in Ireland added tracks to their recommendations list for 3 weeks running. \nWith her biggest headline tour to date selling out most cities and her reputation growing\, she was asked to perform on the legendary Later.. with Jools Holland (25th May) on BBC Two. DESCRIPTION:The Lost Trades are a Folk/Americana group\, based in the West Country\, with a cool Laurel Canyon vibe. With a sound that is reminiscent of the California folk scene of the late 60s/early 70s\, their vocal harmonies have been described as “flawless”\, “spine tingling” and “magical”.\nAfter a global pandemic cut short their first tour after just a single sold out gig\, they retreated to their songwriting rooms to work on their debut album\, “The Bird\, The Book & The Barrel”. The album was released in June 2021 and was well received\, spending 8 months in the official UK Folk Albums Chart. The follow up\, “Petrichor” was released in March 2023\, and immediately followed suit\, entering the chart at #31.\nThere’s always a fun intimacy to their live show\, and comfortable repartee with each other and treating the audience like a group of old friends. \nSupport will be from Devon based Detta Kenzie. \nDoors and bar 7.00pm\, music 7.15pm

DESCRIPTION:Nilmini Roelens grew up in Sri Lanka. She now works as a solicitor in Oxford\, lives in Abingdon and supports One Planet Abingdon. She and her husband created a company\, Solar Village SDG CIC\, an Oxfordshire-based community interest company dedicated to sustainable development in rural Sri Lanka through renewable energy. \nTheir company has launched the “Oxford City Walkabout 2025” fundraiser for November 2\, 2025\, to establish solar-powered villages and smart classrooms in Sri Lanka. The initiative aims to provide solar energy for clean water\, sanitation\, and IT-based education in communities lacking basic resources. \nNilmini will tell us about all this and more\, in her talk on Wednesday October 15th at 7.30pm in Abingdon Baptist Church. SUMMARY:Grim Dark Gaming Society
DESCRIPTION:The Grim Dark Gaming Society has been going since January 2023 and provides facilities and equipment for Science Fiction and table-top gaming. \nWe provide a space to discuss\, paint and play fantasy and sci-fi games. We also offer a safe place to play\, paint and meet like-minded people with the same interest. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome. \nThe society is a non-profit organisation made to further enjoyment of the hobby in all aspects. It is also a great opportunity for players to play games with new people and expand participants’ knowledge and passion for Warhammer and similar strategy games. Whilst these are the main games played there is always room for others and we have board games such as\, Rumble Slam\, Scythe and many more. \nThe club is based above the willows shake shop at the heart of Abingdon town centre and sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesday between 6:30pm and 10:00pm. On Saturday it starts at 10:30am and ends at 4:00pm. There will always be one committee member at each session to welcome you\, and of course me on a Wednesday. \nIf you want to know more you can email (bloodandwar40@gmail.com) or check out our website (https:/a-grim-dark-gaming-society.square.site/). \nIn the evenings and at the weekend you can get refreshments downstairs such as milkshakes\, coffee tea and cold drinks so there’s a wide variety of hot or cold food available\, depending on your taste. This concert at St Michael’s Church on Friday 10th October at 7:30PM will feature songs from the new CD performed by the Northcourt Singers\, with soloists Clare Kirk and Camilla Kirk and conducted by Sally Mears. Sally Mears will also be playing her cello accompanied by Paul Herrington – an arrangement of Benedictus from Karl Jenkins The Armed Man.\n\nProceeds will be split between the Church Funds at St Michael’s and APP\, with the APP portion to go towards funding future APP performances/activities.
