SUMMARY:Exhibition: SAXON Abingdon
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition now starting on Saturday 11th July \nFollowing on from last year’s Roman exhibition\, we will continue the story of the Abingdon area and its people through the Anglo-Saxon period and give a more detailed context to the significant Anglo-Saxon artefacts in the Museum’s permanent display\, such as the rare 7th century gold ring with glass bead decoration. Excavations have uncovered much about the Saxon’s presence in Abingdon\, for example the discovery of a Saxon cemetery on Saxton Road. The exhibition looks at the archaeological evidence and takes a closer look at people’s lives here in the early medieval period. \nFREE Admission

SUMMARY:Grim Dark Gaming Society
DESCRIPTION:The Grim Dark Gaming Society has been going since January 2023 and provides facilities and equipment for Science Fiction and table-top gaming. \nWe provide a space to discuss\, paint and play fantasy and sci-fi games. We also offer a safe place to play\, paint and meet like-minded people with the same interest. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome. \nThe society is a non-profit organisation made to further enjoyment of the hobby in all aspects. It is also a great opportunity for players to play games with new people and expand participants’ knowledge and passion for Warhammer and similar strategy games. Whilst these are the main games played there is always room for others and we have board games such as\, Rumble Slam\, Scythe and many more. \nThe club is based above the willows shake shop at the heart of Abingdon town centre and sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesday between 6:30pm and 10:00pm. On Saturday it starts at 10:30am and ends at 4:00pm. There will always be one committee member at each session to welcome you\, and of course me on a Wednesday. \nIf you want to know more you can email (bloodandwar40@gmail.com) or check out our website (https:/a-grim-dark-gaming-society.square.site/). \nIn the evenings and at the weekend you can get refreshments downstairs such as milkshakes\, coffee tea and cold drinks so there’s a wide variety of hot or cold food available\, depending on your taste. All in all this is a great opportunity for people who want to play strategy games for a small fee or you can watch the games and seek advice for free.

SUMMARY:MG Car Club Ride Before You Buy 2026
DESCRIPTION:Ride Before You Buy – More Than a Car Show… An Experience \nExperience the Thrill of MG Motoring at New ‘Ride Before You Buy’ Event \nA brand new family-friendly motoring event comes to Abingdon this October Celebrating MG’s Past – Inspiring its Future \n  \nClassic motoring enthusiasts\, families and anyone with a love of iconic British cars are invited to a brand-new event taking place in the heart of Abingdon\, the historic home of MG. \nOn Sunday 4th October 2026\, the MG Car Club and Abingdon Works Centre will host the inaugural Ride Before You Buy event at Abingdon Cricket Club\, from 10:00am until 4:00pm. \nMore Than a Car Show… An Experience\, the event has been designed to give visitors the opportunity not only to admire some of Britain’s most iconic sports cars\, but to experience them first-hand. \nRather than simply walking past static displays\, visitors will be able to meet owners\, learn about the fascinating history of the MG marque\, sit inside the cars and\, subject to availability\, enjoy a passenger ride in a selection of MGs in return for a voluntary donation to charity. \nAs the birthplace of the majority of MG models\, Abingdon provides the perfect setting for this exciting new event. Adding to the occasion will be the attendance of former employees from the famous MG Factory\, whose stories and experiences helped shape one of Britain’s best-loved motoring marques. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to meet some of the people who built the cars that continue to inspire enthusiasts around the world today. \nEvery classic MG on display has survived because someone chose to become its custodian. Today\, those custodians are passing on not just their cars\, but the stories\, knowledge and passion that have kept the marque alive for generations. Ride Before You Buy aims to inspire the next generation of enthusiasts\, helping ensure these iconic British sports cars continue to be driven\, cherished and enjoyed for decades to come. \nThe event forms part of the MG Car Club’s ongoing commitment to preserving the heritage of the marque by introducing it to new audiences. By giving people the opportunity to experience these cars first-hand\, the Club hopes to inspire future generations of enthusiasts and help ensure that ownership of MG’s historic models continues to flourish for many years to come. \nWhether your passion is Vintage MGs from the 1930s\, elegant post-war classics\, sporting MGBs or the more modern MGF\, MG TF and today’s MG models\, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
