Amongst English towns, Abingdon is unique in having its very own Guild of Honorary Town Criers. The Criers are all volunteers and Cry on behalf of the Mayor of Abingdon. The modern Guild was established in 2000 and its members attend scores of events through the year both in Abingdon and farther afield. Any remuneration given for their services goes to the Mayor of Abingdon’s Charity Fund.
