Abingdon’s big Christmas light switch on went ahead thanks to the efforts of the town council’s outdoor services team, who stepped in to ensure that the lights were ready following a problem experienced by the contractor, as one of their operatives suffered a very serious injury at another site.
The town council team were informed of the issue on the morning of the event and worked all through Saturday with the contractor to make sure that the lights would come on as planned at 6pm.
The Market Place tree was dressed, the lights connected and the big switch on went ahead as planned – with minutes to spare.
The outdoor team are aware of a few issues with some units which will be sorted out as soon as possible.
We hope residents enjoy the changes to the festive lighting this year and we would like to thank our contractor, Blachere, for their efforts in what were very difficult circumstances for them.
