Abingdon Information on the move
Abingdon Information has been hosted in a number of locations over the years and for the last year has been located in the first floor Sessions Hall at the County Hall Museum. This has meant that the office was inaccessible to anyone who has difficulty with stairs. Consequently the information centre will move back to the Guildhall shortly, being located on the ground floor room at the Town Council’s Roysse Court offices.
The Leader of the Council, Cllr Samantha Bowring, stated: “A climb of 39 steps to reach the local and tourist information centre is not possible for everyone so council was keen to move this service to a more accessible place as soon as possible. We didn’t want to wait until after the busy summer when there are lots of visitors to Abingdon. We have therefore found a temporary home for the service in a ground floor location in the Town Council’s Roysse Court Offices. This has the added bonus of doubling up as a ground floor reception for anyone visiting the town council offices.
Over the next few months the Town Council will be looking at its services to consider how we improve access for people with a variety of needs and will create a long-term home for Abingdon Information which takes account of all the best practices for accessibility.”
The same experienced and helpful staff will transfer over to the new location and will continue to provide a wide range of information for both residents and visitors.
Abingdon Information will re-open at its new location on Wednesday 24th July and its opening hours will be:
Monday to Saturday – 10am to 3pm.
