The several Hornbeam trees on the boundary between the play park at River Close and gardens in Baker Road have, for over 20 years, been the source of much concern for occupants of these properties. Many times the town council have reduced the dense canopies of these trees in size and residents have lopped branches back from over their gardens. Each time these resilient trees grow back thicker.
Whilst the town council is dedicated to increasing its green canopy and biodiversity it recognises that the original planting in this area was not well planned and perhaps the choice of tree wasn’t well considered by developers.
The council have made the difficult decision to fell these trees in stages and plant more fitting trees nearby that will have a more open canopy and not grow to the sizes of the current trees. The town council will also plant shrubs and hedgerows on site to increase habitat options for wildlife and increase carbon capture.
