Following the terrorist attack on the Manchester Arena on 22nd May 2017 the Council has reviewed the arrangements in place for Fun in the Park and Music in the Park on 3rd June 2017.
The Council has taken advice from the Police and its security providers and has worked hard during the last week to review arrangements to help ensure as far as is possible that both these popular events are safe for all those families who come along to enjoy them.
A number of changes have been made to arrangements, the main ones being:
- There will be an enhanced security presence at both events and for everyone’s safety, there will be bag checks at both events;
- The majority of the attractions and the toilet facilities will be consolidated on to the Abbey Grounds and Abbey Gardens (previously many of the attractions and the toilets were located in the Abbey Close Car Park).
- Fun in the Park will finish an hour earlier than last year, at 3pm. This will give more time to clear the Abbey Grounds and prepare the site for Music in the Park.
- There will be no readmittance to the public to Music in the Park after 9.00pm.
Clubs and societies affected by the changed arrangements especially the timings, have been informed.
We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days and make any further necessary adjustments in the light of the national situation and any further advice and direction received.
