Today the Abbey Gardens and Abbey Meadow form a beautiful and relaxing space by the river to stroll and enjoy the floral beds or the views across the water meadows and feed the ducks on the millstream; quiet green spaces contrast with the manufacturing and commercial past of this area. Follow the Lost Abbey Trail boards to find out more about what went on when the monks ran the huge commercial enterprise which was Abingdon Abbey. Start the trail at Abbey Close car park, OX14 3JE.
Connected with the town’s civic society the Freinds of Abingdon is now the Abbey Buildings Trust. The Curator of the Abbey buildings opens these medieval buildings for theatre performances at the Unicorn Theatre and at set hours May to September.
