DESCRIPTION:Abingdon Cycle Festival is back!\n\nTaking place this year on Sunday the 4th of June 2023\, there are 0ver 20 rides for you to join\, all free\, and starting out from Abingdon Market Place 9:00 – 11:30.\n\nWe have bike rides to suit all types of cycling from off road & social group rides though to those that are a bit more sporty and family rides as well. All of the rides are organised by Abingdon Freewheeling Cycling Club and Sustran (National Cycle Network)\, who aim to promote social and community cycling in the local area.\n\nThe rides are free to take part in\, so tell your friends and bring them along and get them involved in cycling in our lovely area.\n\nAll of the rides on the day will start in Abingdon Market Place and finish at the Loose Cannon Brewery in South Abingdon\, where live music\, food and refreshments will be available. What’s more\, we will also have children entertained by Nathan of Cleals Wheels\, who is running racing and obstacle rides for younger cyclists.\n\nCheck out the Freewheeling website for the full ride schedule and all the latest information. They will offer food on the Market Place on the 14th and 28th of January. \n\n\nTo be honest\, you’d be silly to miss this opportunity to try the most delicious food so….see you in the Market Place on a Saturday in January!

SUMMARY:Beating the bounds
DESCRIPTION:The Charter granted to Abingdon in 1556 defined the boundaries of the Town and included the provision for the “Mayor\, Bailiffs and Burgesses…and their Successors to make perambulations (of the Boundaries)”  This tradition of Beating the Bounds has been a special occasion in the past\,  but had lapsed and was only revived a few years ago as the New Year Day Boundary Walk. \nThe Friends of Abingdon Civic Society have added the Boundary Walk to their programme of guided walks \nThis year the walk will be led by Cllr Helen Pighills\, who will be joined by Town Crier Patrick Bird. \nThe event will start from the Market Place at 11am\, and will take no longer than 2 hours.
