SUMMARY:RBO Live: The Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:The magician Herr Drosselmeyer needs to save his nephew. Hans-Peter has been transformed into a Nutcracker; the only way to save him is for the Nutcracker to defeat the Mouse King and find a girl to love and care for him. A flicker of hope comes in the form of the young Clara\, whom Drosselmeyer meets at a Christmas party. With some magic\, a cosy Christmas gathering turns into a marvellous adventure. \nPeter Wright’s The Nutcracker has enchanted audiences since its 1984 premiere by the Company. Featuring Tchaikovsky’s most familiar melodies and brought to life by Julia Trevelyan Oman’s exquisite designs\, The Nutcracker is sure to be a festive firecracker for all ages. \nThis event will be streamed from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

SUMMARY:Abingdon Operatic Society presents 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'
DESCRIPTION:In April 2025\, Abingdon Operatic Society will be debuting ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ at the Amey Theatre in Abingdon.  This promises to be a magical week for cast\, crew and audience\, so make sure you grab your golden ticket! \n‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is a musical based on the 1964 children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl\, with book by David Greig\, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.  As most of us know\, it tells the story of Charlie Bucket and his desperate search for the golden ticket that will enable him to enter the secretive Chocolate Factory of Mr Willy Wonka. \nThe show originally opened at the Theatre Royal\, Drury Lane in June 2013 and almost immediately broke the West End’s record for ticket sales – a record it still holds.  It ran until 2017\, when a reworked production moved to Broadway.  It is this Broadway production that was licensed for international touring productions and\, later\, amateur theatre. \nToday\, there are professional tours across the US\, UK and Australia\, but at AOS we have been lucky enough to fit our production between tours\, which allows us to create a brand new production for Abingdon! \nPerformances are from Tuesday 8th – Saturday 12th April at 7.30pm\, with an additional 2.30pm Saturday matinee\, at the Amey Theatre\, Abingdon\, OX14 1DE. \nTickets can be purchased at www.ticketsource.co.uk/abingdonoperatic
