DESCRIPTION:ATOM Festival of Science and Technology \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUpdate: We’re excited to tell you that the ATOM Festival of Science and Technology will return on 11th and 12th June 2021 \nGet the latest updates and news of the 2021 Festival by signing up for the ATOM Newsletter.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere did the name come from? Professor Frank Close – one of the founders of the ATOM Festival (picture above) explains the surprising history behind an almost acronym… \n[Read the blog here]. \n\nATOM puts on diverse imaginative and family-friendly events to allow our community to discover world-class science and technology taking place right here\, as well as learning about the companies\, organisations and scientists who make it happen. ATOM helps build science capital\, partnering with schools to engage young people\, and encouraging everyone to develop a passion for science and its potential to change the world. \nThis year the Science Market in Abingdon’s historic Market Square and the legendary big Family Science Fair will NOT be there to attract crowds. We hope you understand. There will be science-led inspiration in locations thoughout the town which you can do as individuals and small\, socially distant and careful groups. \nSee all the festival weekend social media in June and look for geocache\, walking\, running and other activities. A small stand on Market Place will answer questions particularly from participants who don’t have much access to tech. A smart phone will prove useful to recognise QR codes. \n\n \nHannah Fry at ATOM19\n\nThe ATOM event is independent\, volunteer-run with some amazing ideas. DESCRIPTION:The fishing season runs between 16th June to 14th March and to fish within this time\, all anglers must be registered with Town Council. \nAbingdon residents can obtain permission to fish please email your full Name and Address to enquiries@abingdon.gov.uk. \nAnglers from outside the town are able to buy a permit to fish at low cost. Apply from 7th June 2021. Please email your full Name and Address to enquiries@abingdon.gov.uk and an arrangement will be made for payment by BACS. We prefer not to accept cheques this year. \nWe will confirm by e-mail that we have issued you with a permit and added you to the register of anglers. \nThe terms and conditions of fishing can be found here and must be read and complied with by all. \nOur permit allows you to fish on the land occupied by the ‘Abingdon Waters’. By law you still need a licence an Environment Agency ‘Rod Licence’. For more information on the fishing tackle and equipment needed to fish correctly and for Rod Licences please click here. \nYou should take the fishing permit with you and have proof of address at all times when fishing. Carry permit\, rod licence\, proof of address. \nFor a day ticket it will be essential that payment is given preferably four working days in advance of your chosen date so that Abingdon Water Keeper can be informed that you have paid. You will need proof with you. \nMatch bookings are also being accepted for which the number of anglers needs to be known. \nSorry\, you are not able to get an existing permit stamped and any questions must be answered by email not calling in person. Please keep your old permit if you would like it stamped later.
