The town council flies a number of flags from the historic County Hall museum through the year to mark a number of events and occasions. The town council has a flag policy which governs which flag is flown each day and that can be found at the bottom of this page.
The Union flag is flown all year round whenever other flags are not flown.
The Abingdon town flag is flown to mark the annual meeting in May, at which the new Mayor is elected, as well as for the Mayor’s birthday and the annual civic service. It may also be flown to mark the death of a current or former town councillor or freeman. The policy explains the circumstances under which this will be done.
Other flags, such as the Royal Standard and the Thames Valley Police flag are flown when appropriate and there will be occasions when a certain flag is flown for a particular reason, to be determined by the Town Clerk in consultation with the Mayor and the Leader of the council.
Subject to the precedence given to the Union Flag on designated days, the following flags may be flown:
