Exhibition: SAXON Abingdon
4th July - 10:00 am - 27th September - 4:00 pm
Following on from last year’s Roman exhibition, we will continue the story of the Abingdon area and its people through the Anglo-Saxon period and give a more detailed context to the significant Anglo-Saxon artefacts in the Museum’s permanent display, such as the rare 7th century gold ring with glass bead decoration. Excavations have uncovered much about the Saxon’s presence in Abingdon, for example the discovery of a Saxon cemetery on Saxton Road. The exhibition looks at the archaeological evidence and takes a closer look at people’s lives here in the early medieval period.
