Annual Mayor Making Ceremony Welcomes New Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames
On Monday, 12th May, the annual Mayor Making ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Helen’s Church in Abingdon-on-Thames. This traditional and much-anticipated event marked the conclusion of Cllr Gabby Barody’s distinguished year as Mayor, and the official appointment of Cllr Rawda Jehanli as the new Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames.
The ceremony was a fitting celebration of Cllr Barody’s dedication, leadership, and service to the community over the past year. The event was attended by Mayor’s Cadets, representatives of her chosen charities, and members of the public, all gathered to show their appreciation and support.
Cllr Barody’s final meeting as Mayor reflected on a year of achievement, including her outstanding efforts in raising funds and awareness for her chosen charities: One Planet Abingdon and The Driver Volunteer Service. Her passion and commitment have left a lasting impact, and the Town Council extends its sincere thanks for her tireless work on behalf of the residents of Abingdon.
The Council also wishes to warmly welcome Cllr Rawda Jehanli, who now steps into the role of Mayor for the coming year. We look forward to the leadership and initiatives she will bring during her term.
Special thanks go to Let’s Do Lunched, The Abingdon Town Band, the churchwarden, and the team at St. Helen’s Church for their invaluable contributions to making the ceremony both meaningful and memorable.
We are also grateful to Martin Wackenier for capturing the day so beautifully through his photography.
