It is with deep sadness that Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council heard the announcement from Buckingham Palace that Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away.
The town council expresses its sincere condolences to the Royal Family at this time. Her Late Majesty the Queen was the longest serving British Monarch, this year celebrating 70 years on the throne, an event marked by celebrations across the UK. She was loved and respected in this country and around the world and will be greatly missed by everyone.
A Book of Condolence will be made available at the Roysse Room, Guildhall, Monday to Saturday daily from 10am to 5pm for members of the community to add their condolences.
In accordance with protocol and as a mark of respect, the Union Flag will fly at half-mast on the Abingdon County Hall Museum. The flag will fly at full mast on the day the new monarch is announced.
As a mark of respect, all town council civic functions and committee meetings and events will be cancelled for the duration of the period of mourning.
Flowers may be left in the Roysse Court Gardens. They will be kept in place until the week after the funeral, subject to weather conditions and safety.
