On Monday, February 17th, 2025, volunteers gathered at Ladygrove Meadow in Abingdon to plant thirty trees as part of a new community orchard initiative. The project was a collaboration between Abingdon Town Council, local environmental group Carbon Cutters, and a dedicated team of community volunteers.
Councillor Tom Greenaway, who was present for the event, praised the effort, saying, “This is a fantastic step towards a greener Abingdon. It’s wonderful to see so many people come together to create something that will benefit the community for years to come.”
The newly planted orchard will, in time, provide apples, pears, hazelnuts, plums, and cherries for local residents to pick and enjoy. The initiative aims to promote sustainability, encourage biodiversity, and offer an accessible source of fresh fruit to the community.
