Abingdon Neighbourhood Plan
Abingdon Town Council has started the process of creating a Neighbourhood Development Plan for Abingdon.
How do you begin to understand a complex and historic place such as Abingdon?
This system of PLACE assessment – Planning, Landscape, Architecture, Culture and Engineering – is one way of breaking down these complex and interrelated issues into five different categories. To find out more about the PLACE assessment and how it was used for Abingdon please click here.
Who are the people that prepare a neighbourhood plan?
Well, it is usually a steering group, made up of both local people and elected councillors. This steering group will often work alongside an appointed consultant (in this case, Feria Urbanism) on behalf of the “qualifying body” – which in this case is Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council. To find out more about the people that make up Abingdon’s Neighbourhood Plan Steering group please click here.
All steering group minutes are reported to the Planning, Highways and Consultations Committee. Minutes of these meetings can be found here.
Interim report and public consultation:
The interim report from the town’s Neighbourhood Plan group is now open for review and consultation here.
It is important that local people contribute to shaping and influencing Abingdon’s development so that our future town is even better place to live, work and grow than it is now.
Please do read the interim and respond to the online questionnaire here by the end of July.
To further improve the final report we’ve decided to set up task groups which will explore a small number of issues more deeply. They are:
- green spaces
- the town centre
- neighbourhood identity
- culture
If you would like to participate in these task groups, which will be active over the summer, do get in touch via neighbourhoodplan@abingdon.gov.uk and we will put you in touch with the group leader.
The neighbourhood plan steering group will be holding two engagement sessions under the County Hall on 10th and 24th July from 1030hrs to 1300hrs. Please come along to find out more and share your views.
