The White Horse Community Lottery is ready to help good causes
The White Horse Community Lottery officially launched Monday 14 June at a special virtual event attended by local VCS groups, community organisations and invited guests.
The Vale of White Horse District council committed to launching its own lottery as a fun and creative way for voluntary and community groups to raise much needed funds. The lottery enables people to support the causes they care most about in the district, and also helps good causes to connect with their supporters.
Players of the lottery can choose which local good cause(s) they want to support when they purchase tickets and prizes range from free prize draw entries to a weekly £25,000 jackpot. Tickets cost just £1 with 60p from every ticket sold going to support charities and community groups across the Vale of White Horse.
The White Horse Community Lottery is free for organisations to join. The council would love to see as many good causes in the district benefitting from the funding raised. If any VCS and community groups would like to get involved, they can do so by:
- by emailing communityenablement@southandvale.gov.uk
- visiting the council’s website whitehorsedc.gov.uk/communitylottery
- taking a look at the official website which launched on Monday whitehorselottery.co.uk
Once organisations have registered, their details will go onto the official website and players of the lottery can choose to support them when they buy their tickets.
Cllr Margaret Crick, Chair of the council said: “It was wonderful to see so many organisations wanting to get involved with our lottery from the start. Hopefully they can now help us spread the word about how beneficial this opportunity can be for local organisations and how easy it is to sign up.”
Cllr Bethia Thomas Cabinet member for Community Engagement said: “It was a pleasure to host such a positive event. Knowing that this lottery is going to make a big difference to local organisations is so important and I’m proud to be a part of the launch. I’d like to encourage more good causes in the Vale to register, it’s free and such great way of generating income and awareness of what they do”.
Phil Wright from Gatherwell, who will manage the lottery on behalf of the council said: “’We’re really pleased to be supporting the fundraising efforts of charities and good causes in Vale of White Horse with the new White Horse Lottery”.
“It gives a fantastic new fundraising opportunity for local groups at a time when it is very much needed whilst also giving local residents the chance to buy a £1 per week ticket to support their nominated good cause with the added chance to win some brilliant prizes”.
The first tickets will go on sale towards the end of July and the first draw for the lottery will take place in September.
The new official website will have regular updates on daily and weekly prizes once the tickets go on sale later in the summer.
