Join other residents of Abingdon this New Year’s Day to ‘Beat the Bounds’ of Abingdon.
The Charter granted to Abingdon in 1556 defined the boundaries of the Town and included the provision for the “Mayor, Bailiffs and Burgesses…and their Successors to make perambulations (of the Boundaries)”. This tradition of Beating the Bounds has been a special occasion in the past but had lapsed and was only revived a few years ago as the New Year Day Boundary Walk.
The Friends of Abingdon Civic Society have added the Boundary Walk to their programme of guided walks
This year the walk will be led by Cllr Helen Pighills, who will be joined by Town Crier Patrick Bird. The event will start from the Market Place at 11am, and will take no longer than 2 hours.
