Festival grants open for applications
Organisers of community events in the Vale are invited to apply for some of the £10,000 worth of festival and events grants on offer from Vale of White Horse District Council.
Recently the council grants have helped fund many events across the Vale including Oxfordshire Play Association free children’s activity days, Abingdon Cycling Festival and the Grove and Wantage Extravaganza.
Applications are invited from 1 August for grants between £250 and £1,000 to help with community events or festivals taking place in the next 12 months. Applications can be made via whitehorsedc.gov.uk/grants and event organisers have until February 2020 to apply.
Cllr Helen Pighills, Vale of White Horse District Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, including grants, said: “Our festival and event scheme exists to fund community events or festivals. We especially like to see free events which can bring local people together”.
During the summer holidays the festival grants benefited young families by helping towards free family activity days at Dalton Barracks and in Faringdon, which were organised by Oxfordshire Play Association (OPA).
Martin Gillett, from OPA, said, “Vale of White Horse District Council has been a key supporter for many years, and thanks to its contributions and those of other funders, we’re able to provide children and young people across Oxfordshire with free play opportunities to improve their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.”
This was echoed by Roger Williams, organiser of Wantage and Grove Extravaganza, he said: “We organise the Extravaganza as a social event for the village and to make money for the development of the rugby club, which in turn, benefits the community of Grove and Wantage. The support we get from the Vale is extremely generous and we greatly value this help in strengthening Grove RFC as a community club.”
