Mrs Janet Morgan, Freeman
Abingdon on Thames Town Council is sad to announce the death of Mrs Janet Morgan, Freeman of the town of Abingdon-on-Thames and Past Mayor.
Janet was a member of the Town Council from 1983 to 1995 and was Mayor of the Town in 1988/89. She was awarded the Freedom of Abingdon in 2011. Janet was also a past member of the Vale of White Horse District Council (including serving as the Leader of the Council) and of Oxfordshire County Council. As an ex-teacher she was also a governor of 3 schools.
One of her long-lasting achievements as Mayor was to establish the biennial “Clubs and Societies Day” when members of the public have the opportunity to learn about all the organisations in the town.
Janet was a hardworking and much respected councillor who served the town very well for many years and will be missed by those who knew her.
Janet was pre-deceased by her husband David and is survived by her children, Alice, Edward and Elizabeth, and her grandchildren. The Town Council extend their deepest sympathies to the family.
The Funeral service is being held on Friday 13 October at 11am in St Helen’s Church. It will be followed by light refreshments in the church. There will be a private committal ceremony in the afternoon for family only.
