New Bench dedicated to the Late Councillor Audrey Hasnip

There is a new Bench outside Abbey Cinema dedicated to the late Councillor Audrey Hasnip who passed away in 2019.

Audrey was a Town Councillor from 1995 to 2007, was Mayor during the civic year 1999/2000 (having been Deputy Mayor to Cllr Jeanette Halliday the previous year) and Mayor’s Escort to her late husband Keith during 2004/05.

She was also well-known in the town as a long-standing geography teacher at John Mason School and in many voluntary roles, including at St Helen’s Church.

Audrey is fondly remembered by all who knew her.  She was a very caring person who was a hardworking and determined councillor with a good sense of humour and a sharp mind.
