Fishing Permits
Interested in fishing the River Thames in Abingdon waters? Season permits for visitors to fish are available to buy now without the need to call into the town offices.
Send an email to enquiries@abingdon.gov.uk which will be passed to the town’s information office. It would be helpful if you could give your name and address and whether you have an existing permit from year June to March 2018 or 2019 to renew or are a new applicant. Prices are maintained at low cost for our visitors. The season closes 14th March.
Season – £27
Concession Season – £16 concessions offered to over 60, child 5 to 16 Young children must be with parent permit holder
Visitor one-day – £10.50 or £5.50 for over 60
Family one-day – £21 family day out to try angling, two adults and two children under aged 16
Payment will be by BACS electronic transfer.
Please note that in light of the coronavirus pandemic permits will be sent by email.
Local Abingdon permits for permanent residents please use existing permits stamped for the past year. These will count as valid providing you have a current proof of home address. No new fishing permit cards will be issued or renewed for the remainder of 2020. Anglers new to living in the town are welcome to email for advice.
You will be required to have your 2018 or 2019 permit card and/or an email from us with you at all times when fishing. Permits will be checked by Abingdon Water Keeper and the Environment Agency who patrol and look at your rod licence.
Fishing matches must be booked in advance. The cost is £53 match fee, booked in advance and a peg fee for each angler. The normal number allowed in a match is up to 30 people which will be in consulation with the town’s Water Keeper in the context of location and social distance guidelines.
The town council have made these decisions based on the current government guidelines around social distancing as the health of our staff and Abingdon residents is our highest priority.
