Abingdon-on-Thames Great Family Day – Saturday 1 June 2013
Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council is once again hosting a great day for all the family which will consist of day and evening activities, shows, entertainment and fireworks – starting at 11am with Fun in the Park. The council has been working in partnership with the Oxfordshire Play Association to make this annual event bigger and better.
There will be a wide variety of FREE activities for all the family – such as Go-Karts, Climbing Wall, Try-a-Sport, Play Bus, Skate Park, Circus Skills; Mobile Children’s Centre, Nature Play, Ziggy’s Soft Play Area and loads more. Entertainment will consist of music and a dance festival which will take place on the large dome covered stage. A dedicated Youth Area has also been set aside which includes a Youth Bus, Skate Park, Mural/Graffiti Wall and other youth related activities.

Abingdon-on-Thames’ abundance of clubs and societies will also be present to offer games, raffles and sales to promote and raise funds for their organisations; along with locally handmade products from our trade stalls.
The outdoor heated pool will be open all day and FREE for all the family to use.
The Guildhall will be opening its doors for everyone to view and enjoy its fabulous historic rooms – they will be offering FREE entertainment and activities and a chance for you to browse and buy at the Fun Day Country Market.
Fun in the Park is about the whole family, giving them an opportunity to spend quality and affordable time together – put the date in your diary now so you don’t miss out on one of Abingdon’s biggest family events ever! Fun in the Park will finish at 3pm in readiness for
Music in the Park where the gates will re-open at 5.30pm. The Town Council are hosting this event and has a great programme of family entertainment; starting at 6.15pm which will consist of:
6.15pm – 7pm – Green Onions – the UK Blues Bros Tribute Band
7.05pm – 7.35pm – Back by popular demand – Albie J Smith as Michael Buble’/Bruno Mars tribute act.
7.40pm – 8.25pm – Local band Prisoners of Katrina, doing rock covers and originals.
8.30pm – 9pm – Elkie – female solo artist from London singing popular songs from the last four decades.
9.05pm – 10pm – Abingdon Town Band, Solo Opera Singer Angela Lawrence and Abingdon Ladies’ Community Choir.
Abingdon Town Band will finish the evening’s entertainment with a rousing rendition of the Proms joined by local opera soloist Angela Lawrence and Abingdon Ladies’ Community Choir.
The Family Day will finish with a grand finale firework display by local lad Karl Shead from Spyrotechnics.
As you can see there is a wide range of musical entertainment to make sure that all ages enjoy the evening. Food and drink are also available at the many food outlets on site (including an outside bar). There are also children’s roundabouts and toddler Inflatables’ (charges will apply for the evening’s rides and activities). We want to give as many people as we can the opportunity to join us, so we are offering Music in the Park at an extremely competitive price of £5 for an adult and £2 for a child aged between 5-17 years old (under 5’s free).
Wristbands are available from Abingdon Town Council offices, Old Abbey House, Abbey Close OX14 3JD Mon-Fri 9am–5pm and Saturday 10am-3pm. We will also be selling wristbands on the Market Place on Saturday 25 May from 10am – 1pm. Due to the sell-out at last year’s Jubilee events, and to avoid disappointment, the public are advised to purchase wristbands as soon as possible.
