Town council offers support for ‘Warm Spaces’
/in News /by Lizzie MartinAbingdon Town Council has agreed to provide funding for local groups looking to set up Warm Spaces this winter. The cash will give groups and organisations some financial support to open their venues up as Warm Spaces, in addition to their normal activity.
The town council’s Community Committee agreed that up to £20,000 would be set aside in the budget to support local groups working to help residents struggling with rising energy bills.
Faced with increasing costs, many residents may face severe hardship this winter. With forecasts of a cold spell, many local groups have been considering providing spaces for people to keep warm. The town council is keen to support this initiative.
Cllr Neil Fawcett, the Chair of the Community Committee, said: “This could be a tough year for many people, particularly if it turns cold, and the town council wants to help. Councillors understand how tough this could be for many residents. We want to help where we can by providing financial assistance to the many generous local groups in Abingdon and this decision will provide upfront support where it is needed most.”.
