The annual meeting of the town council is held in May each year when the Mayor is installed for the coming civic year. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected and the membership of various committees is also determined. Town council representation on other organisations in and around Abingdon is also agreed.
The outgoing Mayor distributes awards to volunteers and members of the community who deserve recognition for their services to the town and the incoming Mayor gives a speech about what they hope to achieve in the coming year.
